Star Wars Episode VIII: 9 Subtle Clues In The Force Awakens You Missed

It will fin? er, continue what Episode VII started.

LucasfilmLucasfilm

The first set photos from Star Wars Episode VIII have landed, bringing us new aliens and crashing speedsters, which means that the countdown to its December 2017 release is very much on, even if it does still seem so far, far away.

All we really know about the film is that it?s going to pick things up at the point The Force Awakens ended, with the meeting between Rey and Luke Skywalker, and that it has a pretty big job on its hands. After all, it has to continue the overarching story, as well as the character arcs of the likes of Finn and Poe, and follow-up the second biggest movie of all-time (Titanic only passed $2 billion on rerelease). No pressure then, Rian Johnson.

Thankfully, an awful lot has already been put in place and mapped out better than a path to Ahch-To. We?ve been introduced to the key new characters, and have at least an understanding of their motivations and the directions they?re headed in, while the lines between the Resistance and the First Order have been clearly drawn.

But while we know to expect the battle between the Light and the Dark to continue, and the film to delve deeper into Rey?s backstory and her connection to Luke, what else can we expect? Understandably not much is known about Episode VIII yet, but delving back into The Force Awakens, there are plenty of clues as to what will come next.

Premium in EVERY sense of the word ? anCnoc Whisky and Patrick Grant

imageTo say Patrick Grant is a busy man is very much an understatement, his life must be one of spinning plates and juggling responsibilities, with his E.Tautz and Norton & Sons sartorial brands, not to mention his high Street difusion range for retailer Debenhams. Then there?s his media undertakings,  as a judge on the Great British Sewing bee. In amongst all of this packed diary of commitments, the Edinburgh born gentleman has managed to find the time to collaborate on a limited edition ?blas? with anCnoc Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Blas, translated as ?taste? in Gaelic, is presented in a specially designed bottle. Grant was able to draw on his Scottish hertitage when he spent over a year designing the bespoke print, which is inspired by the brand, flavour notes of the limited edition liquid, and the time-honoured production methods used at the Knockdhu distillery.

anCnoc Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is part of the Inver House Distillers portfolio, and is produced at Knockdhu Distillery ? established in 1894 and one of the smallest and most enchanting in the Scottish Highlands. It is renowned the world over by malt enthusiasts for bringing a contemporary twist to the traditions of fine malt whisky, producing a single malt that is accessible and versatile for all occasions.

Blas is golden and honeyed n appearance. To the nose it?s densely sweet and fruity with notes of citrus fruit, including lemon and candied orange peel. But tones of bitter chocolate and vanilla add complexity and weight. To taste, Blas is full bodied and oily, leaving a lasting impression. This limited edition has been matured in American oak barrels and Spanish oak butts.

Patrick said of his experience on working with this unique distillery: ?I spent a lot of time at Knockdhu not only taking in the landscape and surrounding areas, but getting to know the people that work there and the methods that they use. Everything in the print is from the hill, the village of Knock or within the distillery itself and tells the story of the making of Blas. I?ve tried to interpret anCnoc?s history and tradition in a modern way, and hope this is translated through the aesthetic of the bottle.?

Oliver Cheshire ? Textual Conversation

imageThe subject of today?s textual conversation, Oliver Cheshire, is proving his smart, savvy, street style to be a big hit with not only the young men but women alike and has given him a social media following of over 100k; resulting in international designers clambering over each other to dress him in their latest collections.

Having started his career in the fashion industry aged just 17 when he was scouted by Select Models. Cheshire?s first campaign was with, a small little brand you may have heard of called, Calvin Klein fronting their iconic advertising. Since then he has gone on to the face of some of the biggest names in the fashion world, including Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Missoni, Vivienne Westwood and Marks & Spencer.

imageHis versatility and appeal have led him to work with some of the world?s most coveted and renowned photographers, including Mario Testino, Mert and Marcus, Bruce Weber and Steven Klein. Proving he?s not JUST a pretty face, Oliver?s style and in depth knowledge of men?s fashion made him the natural choice to become contributor for the Telegraph Men back in 2013.

This season his status continues to grow from strength to strength; confirming his place among the elite of the front row at London Fashion Week and London Collections Men.

Oliver is regularly heralded in GQ.com?s Best-Dressed poll from the US to the UK, aswell as winning places in similar features in publications such as Grazia, The Daily Telegraph and Tatler. He has also been labelled in the press as the ?Model with the Midas Touch?; as brands like Orlebar Brown, Superdry and M&S have seen a direct increase in sales when Chiselled cheekbones has been featured as ?Their Face?.

imageIf you had one day to live what would be your biggest regret?

I think my biggest regret would definitely be not eating that piece of chocolate cake! Never turn down cake!

What?s your favourite piece of clothing?

Right now, I think it has to be my M&S pebble dash Derby shoes. They?re so easy to wear and go with everything.

Who is your style icon? Why?

I grew up as a 90?s kid seeing David Beckham everywhere. He took risks with his fashion, and set trends at the same time. He wasn?t scared to try new things. Now he?s a man who knows what looks great and sticks to it.

What piece of style advice do you live by?

Make sure you?re always properly dressed for the occasion and always follow the dress code on the invite.

Can you tie a bow tie? If yes, who taught you?

Embarrassingly, no! I had to look it up on YouTube.

Have you ever bought a piece of clothing and regretted it?

I?m usually quite good and really think about what I want before I buy it. I guess there are trends I wish I hadn?t tried; I?ve worn some pretty OTT printed shirts over the years.

What do you have to do after this conversation?

I?m going to a lovely dinner at the Rosewood hotel, their food is the best.

What would you like to be doing after this conversation?

Having a beer at the Rosewood with dinner and then eating lots of Percy Pigs!

imageWhat track would always get you on the dance floor?

?Town Called Malice? by The Jam, definitely my favourite song of all time.

How did you get into the industry, what was your big break?

I was scouted by Select Model Management at 16, they sent my Polaroid?s over to New York and I ended up being booked by Calvin Klein. I was really lucky and my career really took off from there, and I ended up walking (on a catwalk) for some really huge names.

If you could live anywhere where would it be & Why?

Probably New York. The atmosphere is just so cool out there and always buzzing. I have loads of friends out there too so I know I wouldn?t ever get lonely. Other than that I think I?d choose London.

imageFavourite hotel in the world?

It?s between the W in Barcelona (above) or the Maritime in Manhattan, they are two of the most amazing hotels I?ve ever stayed in.

What music are you listening to at the moment?

Stormzy, he won two MOBO awards, I would seriously suggest checking him out.

Best present you?ve ever received?

Pixie (Lott) took me on holiday to Florence once for a Christmas present; that was pretty awesome.

Best piece of advice you?ve ever been given and by whom?

Nothing is ever as bad as it seems.

Ten money-no-object gifts for your F1-mad valentine | 2016 F1 season

Today is Valentine?s Day and if you?ve only just realised this you may already be in trouble.

Fortunately F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship prize supplier Memento Exclusives can suggest ten gifts which are sure to win over your F1-mad loved one ? as long as money is no object.

Michael Schumacher race-damaged 1995 Benetton B195 end plate ? £1,999

Michael Schumacher race-damaged Benetton B195 endplateMichael Schumacher race-damaged Benetton B195 endplate

Michael Schumacher produced some of his finest drives en route to his second world championship title in 1995: winning from 16th on the grid at Spa-Francorchamps, battling through the field at a slippery Nurburgring and elbowing Damon Hill aside at Estoril.

It didn?t always go to plan though: this race-damaged rear wing end plate is the legacy of a visit to the scenery, possibly when he skidded off at a damp Imola during the San Marino Grand Prix.

But if two thousand pounds seems a bit steep to you, consider fast-forwarding to the bottom to find a few more affordable present ideas.

Red Bull salt and pepper set ? £2,154

Presented on a carbon brake pad and fashioned from gearbox parts, this has to be one of the most striking ways to season your food. Salt and pepper not included.

Force India engine cover chair ? £3,950

If you often find yourself standing around wondering what to drink, this chair made from a Force India?s engine cover featuring their many alcoholic beverage sponsors can solve both problems.

Formula One ?Raced? Chess Set ? £9,950

F1 'raced' chess setF1 ?raced? chess set

?F1 is like a game of chess? said former FIA president Max Mosley, who never grasped that the object of this game isn?t to get your pieces around the board as quickly as possible. Fork over the best part of ten grand for this beautiful set made from race-used parts, and stun your opponents by following up a Sokolsky Opening with an Albin Countergambit.

Signed 1994 Michael Schumacher Bell replica helmet ? £11,418

This classic Schumacher helmet design from the year of his first world championship victory is signed by the man himself.

Made from part of the exhaust system from a 2008 Red Bull RB8 the Inconel alloy can withstand temperatures of up to 1,000C, illuminating the room as it glows white-hot. But it?s probably safer to pop a few halogen bulbs in.

F1 OPUS world champions? edition ? £20,000

A book for the price of a library? The five-figure price tag attached to this vast tome is partly due to the fact that it has been signed by every living world champion.

Easy Origami for Kids!

Some of you may noticed that I have been *but a little busy* over on YouTube lately?. YouTube is a GREAT platform to share Origami How Tos. I find that step by step origami for kids photos are so much harder to follow, than simple origami for kids video tutorials. So I have started to create a whole set of origami videos for beginners. They focus on the easiest and most ?classic? paper crafts for kids ? and the majority of them should be ?doable? for kids on their own. Of course, I have also got some ?intermediate? origami projects on my YouTube channel (some shared at the very end for you to browse!), but this post today, focuses on the absolute easiest. A  great way to get kids into paper crafting and excited about origami!

There is also a difference between origami (which is uses a square piece of paper and folding techniques) and kirigami (which can use any shaped paper and requires a little cutting to0). But I find when it comes to kids, doing a mix of the two is best. We also like to embellish our paper crafts with pens or sticking on details such as LARGE eyes. Let?s have a peak at these easy Origami for Kids projects!!

Easy Origami For Kids - if you are looking for some fun and easy beginners origami projects for kids, take a look at these fabulous ideas

Step by Step Origami for Kids

Easy Origami Bunny How To

This little easy Origami bunny is probably one of the best Origami Projects for kids that you can start out on (well these and the tulips, but I find that the bunnies have more appeal to both boys and girls ? say what you like.. but I do find boys and girls have slightly different preferences).

Easy Paper Bunny Bookmark Corner - adorable little Easter craft

These ADORABLE Bunny Bookmarks are actually part of a SERIES of corner bookmarks on both my blog and YouTube channel. My YouTube viewers are forever asking for new Corner Bookmark designs.. and so I oblige! :-) if there is a book corner design you would like to see, leave me a comment on YouTube and I will see what I can do!

Easy Origami Corner Bookmark How To - turn them into Monsters, Owls and wherever your imagination takes you. A great little gift for book lovers on Father's Day

Origami Cat - easy paper crafts for kids

As cat owners and cat lovers, we needed to have a go at these super simple Origami Cats! My kids adore them and they are as easy as the ever popular Origami Bunnies shared above.

Origami Butterflies how to - easy paper butterflies for children to learn and get into paper crafts

These little Paper Butterflies are still classes as ?easy? in my books, however, they are better for the a child that feels a LITTLE confident in making origami crafts already. They are easy, but just need a little more skills! DO try them, as I think these Origami Butterflies make a great decoration.

Easy Origami Patterns - make this super easy and fun paper origami swan - it only takes minutes to learn

This Origami Swan, very much has that ?classic? Origami look about it and introduces some basic folds (i.e. the head) that you will find in many origami projects for kids. So do take a look at this easy paper swan. It is cute and teaches you great skills!

Another childhood classic origami pattern are these adorable little Origami Boats or Paper Boats. This is one of the first origami patterns I taught my children (eventhough many of the above origami for kids ideas are easier), because I have a personal strong association with these from my childhood? you can make them, any time, anywhere and have lots of playful fun! Love.

Easy Kirigami Heart Corner Bookmarks.. make them just because or give them as a small gift on Valentines Day

These little heart bookcorners ?technically? are more Kirigami can Origami.. but they are so cute and again, so easy, that I think they need including in an round up of easy origami for kids!!! You don?t HAVE to use them as bookmarks, again, these would look really nice on a DIY Valentine?s Day Card or similar!

tulip YT

We adore these origami tulips. The head of the tulip is SUPER easy for kids to make. You can make just the head and then stick it on a card and draw the rest, creating a wonderful tulip collage ? perfect for mother?s day. Expat Round-up: Travel on your doorstep

expats roundup of blog posts UKOne of the big advantages of being an Expat is that you often have destinations on your doorstep that others have to spend hours (and quite a lot of money) travelling to.   I look on it as compensation for a life at times I wouldn?t necessarily have chosen!   Even as I write this, I am looking out over Kitzbuhel?s very snowy peaks with my slumbering babe asleep next to me, enjoying the peace and quiet as the rest of my family hit the slopes?

Travel is definitely an upside to this transient life, and something I will admit to taking for granted at times.  Coming from a relatively small island, it?s easy to forget that at home we can?t just get in a car and drive to Italy in a couple of hours from the UK, or drive a few hours more and be in Croatia and beyond?  One day, when we move back I am going to get a very big shock, I know.

Dutch Expat Travellous World pays a visit to somewhere that is relatively easy to get to from the UK ? Antwerp?

Busy touring her new homeland Australia, Canadian Krista of Rambling Tart takes us on a trip to Dangama Mungar ? or Talking Mountain.  Her photography of her adopted homeland is stunning.

Long term expats FunFlyingFour don?t have to go far to find adventure and tell us about their Yurt Stay in Beach Rock Village in their temporary home of Okinawa Japan.

The BabyGlobeTrotters never stay still for long, and this month they are celebrating an important milestone ? Happy Birthday!

Adriana?s blog ? Changing Plate not only has stacks of amazing photography, but this post gives a really uplifting insight into a new life for a lot of brand new expatriates who had little choice about moving abroad.   International Cafe talks about a group of refugees being welcomed to her tiny Bavarian village.

I love Caroline?s blog ? it?s great to see what life is like as an Expat in the UK.  She?s very much looking forward to the Easter hols in her post The Mundanity of February, and also ponders life?s other great questions such as ?why does my refrigerator have a plastic tray for 7 eggs??

Lou Messugo is already thinking ahead to Christmas with her post 24 Reasons to Love Christmas in France.

Not really travel related (unless you are visiting Berlin soon and fancy a gander at the pics) but because it?s a good read, I have included A Few More Steps? post ?All About Berlin ? Confusion and Food?  explores the good, the bad and the ugly side of life in a relatively new city?

And finally, for those of you who may well embark on a life back home this year and might be dreading it. Here are a couple of posts that might make you feel better about the prospect firstly from One Tiny Leap who has just returned home after an amazing adventure, and also from Third Culture Mama.

Do please leave your posts on all matters ?Expat? for inclusion in March?s round-up below.

About Emma Raphael

Emma Raphael left the UK for Copenhagen in 2009, with her ever-patient husband and two small children. Having enjoyed a couple of years in Scandinavia, Emma and her family found they enjoyed Expat life so much that they now reside in Munich ? where the pace of life is relaxed, her language skills are small, and the mountains and bier halls are very large. Being one half of a self-proclaimed foodie couple, Emma enjoys the new produce and restaurants in each new country she resides in, and has made it her mission to convince people that English food no longer deserves the bad rap it once had. She can be found in the kitchen when she?s feeling homesick, trying to recreate comfort food from home. She also has huge passions for travel, photography, art, wine, gardening (although according to her Bavarian neighbours, she?s not much good at that!) and her family (of course)!
