?70s Canadian survival adventure Kona launches, eh?

I?ve little interest in most survival games because survival for survival?s sake isn?t enough for me. And in the game. Kona [official site] has caught my eye for bringing a purpose to survival. It?s a first-person survival explore-o-adventure set in ?70s Canada, with a detective investigating a town that?s mysteriously deserted during a fierce blizzard. I?m up for that. Kona first caught my eye in 2014 while crowdfunding and now, following a year in early access, the full game has launched. Peep the launch trailer:

So there you are, in a town where everyone?s gone missing, trying to solve the mystery by exploring, solving puzzles while surviving the elements and hostile wildlife. Rob Zacny was not a fan when he Prematurely Evaluated Kona in March 2016 but ah, I?ve already started downloading it myself. I do enjoy poking around places.

Developers Parabole have reworked and changed bits over the past year, but the main change coming with the full launch is adding Kona?s other chapters. Parabole explain:

?If you played Kona on Early Access, you probably wonder what will change starting today. During early access, approximately 30% of the game content was available. Starting today, you can finally discover the rest!

?You will also be able to find and drive a snowmobile and you can expect new encounters, among other things (we wouldn?t want to spoil the whole thing now, would we).?

A snowmobile!

Kona is out now for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It?s £14.99/$19.99/19,99? on Steam and about the same on GOG.

Video Round-up: Home & away

Video Round-up

Welcome back to the Britmums monthly Video Round-Up. How can it be March already? Aren?t the first signs of Spring just so very welcome too? Just so wonderful to be able to get outside that little bit more without so many layers! I even managed to have my coffee outside at the weekend. Pure bliss. Anyway, as mentioned in February?s Round-Up, I wanted to bring you a selection of videos of holiday inspiration for you. I imagine many of you are beginning to think about a week away in the summer. Well, look no further, as I have an excellent selection for you from some fantastic vloggers to whet your appetite.

Firstly, for some inspiration closer to home you must check out Hayley Challinor?s trip to North Wales where they visit Snowdonia with a toddler and a baby in tow. The scenery is breathtaking and the coastline just spectacular. I?m thinking that I may book to go here at Easter with my three as it is always something my husband and I have wanted to do. You were so lucky with the weather too!

Next up is a review by Caroline Magovern of the accommodation of Butlins in Minehead. I was so surprised at just how spacious it was and the balcony with the view over the lake is so worth a look. I bet you had a great stay there, Caroline. For anyone considering a trip to Butlins, this is so worth a look.

For more inspiration for a trip within the UK, Chloe Bridge has a great video from her travels to Bristol and Devon. Despite the rainy weather (it was February half term), Chloe shows just how great it is to get the children out and exploring. The Devon coastline is beautiful. I spent many a childhood there and it looks like your children had great fun playing on the rocks and throwing stones in the water. Hours of entertainment right there. And, as you say, just wonderful to take an impromptu trip for a few days.

Emily Leary brings a great video to the round-up, filmed by her children, from their forest break. Interestingly, according to research that Emily highlights, children are increasingly involved in holiday choices so it was wonderful to see their video take on it too. This video will appeal to all children. There?s cycling, tree climbing, bowling, pottery painting and pony trekking, as well as lots of great food! Well worth a look for those with energetic children. This trip will tire them out!

This video from Kerry Conway, documenting their trip to Bluestone is well worth watching. I?m a little biased as have wanted to visit here for many years but never got around to it. I think this video may well be the push I need and will certainly be showing my husband to help persuade him. Thank you, Kerry! Your daughter?s excitement about the holiday speaks volumes and the scenery was just beautiful.

Now, I couldn?t possibly have a break away round-up without featuring our wonderful Capital. Both Lisa Hodson and Sian Russell bring great videos of their breaks in London. Still, one of my favourite places to visit and take a break. Lisa?s trip takes in trips on the Thames, a bus tour through the Capital and the underground too. A real variety of transport! Lisa, your children?s faces say it all. Sheer enjoyment! Sian?s video shows us time spent taking in many of the landmarks as well as the street acts. I love standing and watching these acts along the Southbank and in Covent Garden. So entertaining! And your trip on the London Eye at night was something so special. What a spectacular city!

Erin Ek, shows us a beautiful trip to the historic town of Helmsley where they stay in the most beautiful cottage. Simply stunning with beautiful views of a castle. There is also a brewery next door. I don?t think I?d have any problem convincing my husband to book going here!

For something a little further afield, Emily Peacock, brings us a taster of her familymoon to the Sensatori resort in Crete. I?ve heard so many great things about the Sensatori resorts and this video does not disappoint. Beautiful location, beautiful weather, beautiful food, beautiful scenery. It?s all rather beautiful! What a truly fantastic time you had!

For a trip with a beautiful ending, you must watch this from Eilidh Gallagher of her trip to Nice. What a beautiful part of the world? I won?t spoil it for you but so worth a watch!

Saskia Cartwright shows us some breathtaking scenery and quite terrifying shots from her short video incorporating trips from sun, sea and snow. Some of those scenes literally made me gasp. Especially the bridge scene overlooking the water below! Thank you for sharing with us.

Thank you to everyone for sharing their videos with me. I hope that I?ve given those watching some inspiration for their travels this year. I?m certainly adding several new places to my list! It leaves me just to wish you all a great month and for the next month I?ll be doing a round-up of days out in the UK so please email me your suggestions at [email protected] for consideration.

Mass Effect Andromeda: 10 Hilarious Animations You Need To See

Mass Effect Andromeda - SaraBioware

I’d like to bring you word that Mass Effect Andromeda is absolutely everything both fans and the mainstream gaming populace want it to be; a phantasmagorical concoction of fan-pleasing wish-fulfilment, boldly reintroducing such a storied and popular franchise to an entirely new generation.

I’d love to tell you that, but I can’t, because Bioware f*cked up. At this stage, everything you’re about to see is taken from the first few hours in the game, and maybe – just maybe – there’ll be so much phenomenal plot development or usage of uber-cool game mechanics that come the credits, all these dead-eyed faces and broken walking animations will be totally forgotten about.

There’s almost no hope in hell of that happening, of course, but hey, it never stopped Fallout 4 for sweeping its Game of the Year polls, genuinely robbing The Witcher 3 back in 2015. Not that I’m bitter.

Regardless, feast your eyes on the first glimpses of ‚the new Mass Effect‘, and keep in mind, Bioware have had five.solid.years to plan every inch of this, from necessitating another entry in the first place, to each pimple on the side of all those freaky doll-like faces…

part 4 Test and Tips

They?re not just about Swiss Army Knifes ? Victorinox

If I said Victorinox to you, you?d be forgiven if you said, sorry who ? Now if I said Swiss Army Knife, of course everyone knows Swiss Army Knifes and either has, had or hankers after one. Now did you know Victorinox produces and sells unique, high quality products worldwide which are of practical use in differing areas of life: Cutlery, Watches, Travel Gear, Apparel and Fragrances. The head office of the company is in Ibach, Schwyz, in the heart of Switzerland. This is where the founder of the company Karl Elsener first set up his cutler?s business in 1884 and, a few years later, designed the legendary Original Swiss Army Knife.

And god you also know that Victorinox Swiss Army has been producing precision instruments for over 25 years. These timepieces, manufactured in the new Victorinox watchmaking competence center in Delémont, in the Swiss Jura, combine timelessness, reliability and functionality. Thanks to the brand?s uncompromising commitment to quality and attention to detail, Victorinox Swiss Army watches perpetuate the vision introduced by its founder over a century ago and establish themselves as objects capable of meeting the most demanding requirements.

The latest edition to the Swiss Family Victorinox is the the I.N.O.X Carbon. Made from a carbon resin composite that has protected space shuttles from reentry temperatures in excess of 1,260°C, it fearlessly heads for elevated performance levels. Durable materials and construction join forces with dependable functionality. The Victorinox Swiss Army flagship collection reinforces its relentless commitment to simultaneously measuring and defying time.

The I.N.O.X. Carbon combines extremely high structural rigidity with scratch resistance and hypoallergenic properties. A total of 130 homologation tests are the first milestone facing I.N.O.X. timepieces. In the I.N.O.X. Carbon, the seal of quality finds clear expression via a monobloc dial with stamped markers and digits to ensure shock resistance. Its striking case gets extra shielding on everyday adventures from a transluscent grey, removable bumper. A Naimakka paracord attachment is an adventure-loving alternative to a genuine rubber strap, both in black. Traditionally used for parachute suspension lines, and with a breaking strength of 250 kg, the multi-strand nylon cord is permanently ready for 24/7 action.

Meticulous details are the undisputed building blocks of perfection. From the red military time printed beneath the crystal, to the subtle marbled effect affording each piece intrinsic uniqueness, the I.N.O.X. Carbon stays true to the quest. The watch?s dense, matt black appearance makes a sleek modern statement, hinged on an industrial inspiration: a visible link between the proven Victorinox pioneering spirit and a high-tech present and future. Innovation is never a final destination. It?s a borderless map.

Get the perfect strike this Spring ? 6 of the best Bowling Shirts

Words by Keanu Adorable

For some unknown reason the bowling shirt has had a bad rep for a while now. Similar to the Hawaiian shirt, the item has been associated with interesting personalities? from Charlie Sheen?s rude and crude character from Two and a Half Men (who had a whole collection of atrocious tops) to the eccentric crew from The Big Lebowski who are synonymous with short-sleeved embroidered button-ups.

Loose and easy, with a casual spread-collar, the bowling shirt sums up the relaxed, sleazy-chic is making a strong comeback this summer, with the 1950s trend that seems to be everywhere for spring, bowling-style shirts have been hugely popular on the streets of Milan and Paris during the SS17 fashion weeks.

ACNE STUDIOS Ody Camp-Collar Cotton Shirt

CMMN SWDN Camp-Collar Garment-Dyed Slub Shirt

Bowling shirts are typically cut wide and boxy but don?t let that put you off, oversized fits are a solid style move. Lightweight fabrics and a breezy, open cut make the shirt a great choice for hot spring/summer weather, hopefully, which explains the popularity with the fashionistas? and also tourists, two demographic you don?t often associate together. They?re traditionally produced with drab colorways and team embroidery on the chest, but most people seem to be going for nostalgic oriental designs ? orchids, tigers, dragons, etc ? and many contemporary labels are producing minimal versions too.

PRADA Camp-Collar Stretch Cotton-Blend Shirt

The fashionista illuminati has, naturally, splashed out on luxe garms from the likes of Gucci, Prada and Valentino. More accessible labels have hopped on to the trend too, and there?s nothing stopping you diving into your local charity shop/thrift store or eBay if you?re feeling sensible, financially.

Mums in Business Round-up: Using Pinterest to drive traffic

mums in business Round-up image

Photo credit: Monkey Business Images, Shutterstock

When running a business there are so many areas of social media it can be hard to know where to put your energy. Today I?m going to take a look at Pinterest. Pinterest isn?t your normal social media platform, Pinterest is a search engine.

Make your profile shine : It can be hard to know what to add in your description especially when you are working with a tight word count. Nicola Says has a great little list :

  • What you are/do ? e.g. a blogger, online store owner, graphic designer
  • What you offer visitors ? e.g. fun family recipes, easy DIY crafts, home decor inspiration
  • Who your content is for ? e.g. busy parents, ambitious female entrepreneurs, new photographers
  • A call to action ? e.g. visit my blog for a new DIY every week, find my free course on my website
  • Add in a bit of your personality, too. Always, always be you and write in your style.

Add alt text and title text to all your images : Samantha Rickleton has a great list of tips on how she increased her blog referrals using Pinterest. But this is probably one of my favourites. The Alt text area of images is under used by everyone all the time. It?s an excellent SEO resource and you should really be adding alt text and title text to every image anyway but it is particularly important for Pinterest friendly images. Ensure this text includes a long description of your blog post and all of your keywords as it?s the text that is automatically added to your ?Pin? when this image is added to Pinterest. Your pin description is important as it?s one way people can find your pins.

Rich Pins : Everyone should have rich pins. It?s super easy to set up and can make a massive difference to your traffic. Rich pins contain information from your website, including stating you as the original source, your favicon (logo) is shown, the title is a bold-type headline and the first few lines from the post where the image has been pinned from.

Tidy up your boards : Kimberly, Swoon Worthy, shares her tips on how she increased her traffic including tidying up her board.  Delete any under performing pins and importantly add descriptions to your boards which include your keywords. Remember Pinterest is a search engine, keywords are vital. Pinterest-guru Jen Stanbrook, Love Chic Living, also suggests having a dedicated brand/blog board at the top of the layout which only contains pins from your site. It?s a great way to show a pinner ALL of your fabulous content in one place. Top tip!

Create beautiful pins :  Jen, Love Chic Living, also shares what images do best. Images should be portrait or vertical, about 1000px x 750px ish, containing visually attractive lifestyle content. Try not to include faces or cut out images, these don?t do well. Add some teaser text or overlay words to help people see immediately what problem you?re solving. This can work particularly well for blog posts that aren?t focused on the visuals.

Jen also has a collection of free Pinterest courses so do check out her blog : Pinterest Courses

Use your analytics : Pinterest comes with it?s own analytics. Hands up if you ever actually had a look? Nope me neither! Jill, My Kids Time, goes through in depth using them from what your popular pins are, who your audience is and what interests them. These three key stats are sure to make your Pinterest strategy a whole lot better.

Don?t forget to pop over and follow me on Pinterest : Pinterest.com/CharlieMoos

If you have any top tips regarding Pinterest do share them in the comments below.  Next month?s theme is about confidence and guilt around being a Mum in Business. Please do tweet your blog links to @CharlieMoos.

Grooming tips every man should know

WORDS BY JOANA TEIXEIRA

We all want to look our best, and whilst clothes definitely do make the man, the way you look after yourself plays a major part too. With a solid grooming regime, we can all make the most of what we?ve got in any situation, from work to play.

From sporting an on-trend cut to looking after your hands, we?ve got five top tips to get you looking your best at all times.

? Hair: Once you?ve had your hair professionally cut it?s down to you to keep it looking cool. That?s where using the right hair products come in. Whereas thick hair can handle heavier products like wax, you?ll want to go for lighter sprays, gels and mousses for thin hair. It?s all about research (feel free to ask your barber here) and finding the best thing to keep your locks tidy and sleek. Got long hair? There?s nothing more stylish than keeping it under control in a man bun.

? Face: You need a two pronged attack here ? scrub and soothe. When it comes to the scrubbing, a quality exfoliator will get rid of flaky skin, clear up your complexion and even help you get a better shave. You don?t want to do it every day though, every other will do. Regular moisturising is another vital component of any grooming regime, as it?ll keep you looking young and fresh-faced. Invest in a specialist eye serum or cream to get rid of those tell-tale bags too.

? Beard: Beards are in, there?s no doubt about it, but yours will only look good if it?s well maintained. A weekly trim at the least is necessary, and more often if you grow hair quickly, so that means investing in a good beard trimmer. Keep an eye on the shape of your beard too, but keep it as natural as you can. Take the lines too high or low and it?ll be obvious that you?re trying too hard.

? Stray hairs: Being hairy isn?t a bad thing. That is, if you keep things under control! Don?t miss stray hairs by focussing on the main areas; keep an eye out for wispy bits around your ears, nose and on the back of your neck. Check between the eyes too. Monobrows are typically not considered a good look ? don?t be afraid to ask your barber to give them a re-shape when you?re in, as they?re more than used to it.

? Nails: Your hair is coiffed, your beard?s looking neat and your skin is smooth, so everything is in order. Almost everything, that is. There?s no point doing all of the above and having scraggy hands with rough old nails and flaky skin. Trim your nails regularly and keep your hands in great shape by getting rid of dead skin and moisturising, just like you do with your face. When it comes to nails it?s best to clip after a bath or shower, as the warm water will soften them in preparation.

As with anything to do with looking good, it?s all about a little prep and a plan. Now you?ve got our top grooming tips you can put them into practice and maintain your cool every day.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 – 10 Biggest Things We Still Don’t Know

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Kurt Russell Marvel Studios

The hype machine is in top gear as Marvel Studios prepares to release the long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 upon audiences soon enough.

The marketing has done a terrific job emphasising a fun, overblown action movie tone while keeping plot details relatively light, which will be music to the ears of fans sick of trailers giving away every last narrative beat.

Though the first film was driven more by its sheer vibrant personality than a particularly nuanced plot, writer-director James Gunn has promised a more involved story this time, and what’s been shown off so far has certainly left fans both excited and full of burning questions.
